LONDON, March 10.—Hit by hit London is becoming a city ol more spacious t hot ougldai'cs. A»°nuiuy as forty schemes of street reconstruction have been promoted b\ the Loudon County Council during recent years. They range front improvements in suburban areas, where only a- few yards ol pavement or a. tno-obtrusive corner are affected, to the Strand and Piccadilly schemes, wherel hundreds of yards ol pavement are being pushed hack and the street widened, in some cases to a depth of 100 feet. The schemes, which cover an area of almost five miles of street, involve mi estimated cost of over £3,COO,CCO, which is lessened, so far as the London County Council is concerned, by grants and contributions. from the various district authorities.
