INDIAN TRAIN WRECK.
DISASTER IN A CYCLONE
ALLAHABAD, March 25.—Yesterday evening a train on the Rohilkatid-lvuniaon railway was struck by the full force of the severest type of cyclone while passing over flic Raniganj bridge, three miles from Bareilly. Five third-class bogey carriages at the rear of the train were filuwu over, two falling in the river and three in its dry lied. Four of the iivo fell roof downwards and were completely smashed, passengers being imprisoned in the debris. The death-roll is estimated at from forty to fifty, but it is impossible to say how many dead there are in the submerged *coaclics. I lie bridge lias standard and metre gauge tracks, andl is common to the Oudli-Roliilkaiid' and Rohilkaiid-Iviuiiaoii railways. 22 BODIES RECOVERED. ALLAHABAD, March 20.—The total casualties in the Bareilly railway accident cannot yet be estimated accurately, biit twenty-two bodies have been recovered, including three brought up from the bottom of the river by divers, and fiftyfour injured received! medical attention. It is feared that many more dead were locked up in the submerged' carriages. The train was approaching Bareilly,
when it was caught by a cyclone from the rear. The engine and all the carriages, except the last four, had' crossed the bridge. The rear carriages must" been lifted up several inches by the- force of the storm and thrown on the side 'of the track, whence they rolled down into the fiver. The accident occurred’ just before the mp-Punjab mail was expected to reach Bareilly. The cyclone was so severe that the mail had to be pulled up some miles from Bareilly.
