The A lay or, Air. T, B. Williams, who lias been ill for several months, tendered ins resignation this morning. Mr. J. P. Watt, Borough valuer, and returning officer, has also resigned on account t>f ill ness,< after many years’ municipal service.

OTAKI, tin’s day. The caretaker's cottage at Otaki racecourse, with tlie contents, was destroyed this morning by fire. The origin is a mystery. CHRISTCHURCH, this day. The Methodist Conference accepted with regret the resignation of the Rev. J. Napier Milne, who is returning to England and the Rev. A. J. L. Alinife, whose retirement is due to ill-health. Mr. Frank Batcup was received as. a minister on probation, to be immediately employed in circuit work. The retirement of Air. Aliltie made a vacancy in the editorship of the Methodist Times to which tlie Rev. P. R. Paris was elected. The Rev. S. La wry was reappointed business manager, and Air. 11. Holland, treasurer. The Rev. W. J. Williams was appointed editor emeritus. Regret was expressed by tlie conference at the amount of pernicious literature finding its wav into Methodist and other homes in the Dominion. Reported sale: Gear Aleat Co., 45s 9d ; Union Bank, £l4 10s; Electrolytic Zinc Co., 30s 6d. On ’Change, Goldsbrougli, Aloft and Co., 49s 5d (two parcels). DUNEDIN, this day. Sales : Mount Lvell, 23s (two parcels). Reported: Bank of Australasia, £l3 ss; Goldsbruugh, Mort, and Co., 49s 4d. The statement of the Rev. ATr. Dawson re the liquor party " working to secure a dissolution of Parliament was submitted to Air. C. Speight, who stated that neither the trade nor himself had any knowledge of any such attempt.
