It is surmised he was seized with cramp. TAUMARUNUI, this day. A head-on collision occurred between two railway jiggers .on a railway bridge half a mile north of Taitmarunui at ,10.30 on Saturday night. As a result, a cadet, F. J. Gardiner, was throAvn over tho sido of tho bridge,' and is now \in hospital in an uncon : scious condition. WELLINGTON, this day. A body was found in the harbor last, night floating near the Pipitea wharf. : There was nothing to prove its iden- j tity, but the deceased appeared to bo a' man of about 45 to 50 years of age,' clean shaven? and with fair hair. The only person reported to the police as missing was seen yesterday, whereas the body had been in tho water 24' hours. The Judge, heard a statement as to the excellent character borne by prisoner, which he raid was undoubted, but such a case could only be dealt with in one way. The case was one of the saddest that had ever ccmo under his notice. • BLENHEIM, this day. • Obituary: .John Duncan, ex-M.P, for Wairau, aged 76. He was the eldest son of Mr. A. S. The British and Intercolonial Exhibition was brought to a successful conelusion on Saturday night in the presence of a. record attendance. The closing function was marked by addresses from Messrs. Butler (president), the Hon. G. M. Thomson, Perry (Mnyfr), Dull' (County chairman), and Schmitt (Industries Department). Congratulatory messages on the success of the exhibition were received from various - Canterbury associations and the Duncdin Exhibition Company. The Hon. Mr. Thomson presented the Snodcrass Cup to. tho winner, Miss Mary Korridgo, for an essay on tho province of Wostland. The general tone of the speeches was most congratulatory on the splendid success achieved.
