Brown, American geoibgiCal and.engineering expert, appointjed. by theiKotußu Oilfields Company, near Greymputh, jto.examine the possibilities of, the field, jhaye been submitted to a ih'eeting of 'directors of the company at Napier, and is stated to bo unfavorable. Mr Brown ..states that< oil is present, but not in commercial quantities. ..The company's, plant ,wilj. now be dismantled. At feast JBIOO,Cw has been spent in boring ppeVatiOn's on this field during the last twenty .years, including £50,000 by . the Royal jt was supposed that oil existed at deep levels, but, a local investW stated; although small quantities of petroleum, were found at depths ranging frc/m 20 to' 150 feet not a pint of oil was found-at-the lower levels.
