SEVEREST WINTER FOR 50 YEARS,
SNOWFALLS CONTINUOUS.

The Times' Vienna, correspondent says the severest winter for fifty years is being experienced in Austria and throughout the whole of Southern and Central Europe. Snowfalls since, before Christinas continue, occasionally accompanied by most violent blizzards. The bitterest cold is felt in the country districts. Snow drifts are fathoms deep. Villages in the mountain valleys are. snowed in, only the chimneys being visible. Railway traffic in Austria is . disorganised. Some lines have been completely suspended. Thousands of trucks are snowbound.
Vienna has already spent ten thousand pounds sterling in keeping the streets clean. There have been, numerous avalanchei fatalities. A ski party of seven was. buried, only two being saved. Other parties are missing. Western Bohemia reports that show lies fifteen foet deep. Wild birds and animals aiv. dying in great number's.
