DOMINION CHAMPIONSHIPS. (Per Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, Dec. 31. Better than ever before during the present tournament was the verdict on the condition of the United Club's tennis courts for the New Zealand championships to-day. To-day's matches were played in bright sunshine, tempered by a, very light breeze from the east. Owing- io the fact thai: the championships have taken longer than was originally intended, it has been found necessary (o postpone tho commencement of the Wilding Memorial Shield matches between Wellington and Canterbury until Wednesday. One of the big surprises of the championship tennis tournament was the defeat of G. Ollivier by A. W. Sims. Sims looked a winner from the start, last year 's champion obviously being off form. Intensely exciting and memorable was the final contest between Bartlctt and Robson, and Page and Ollivier in tho men's doubles. Tho latter pair won the first, second and third, but went down badly in tho fourth. In the final sot, Ollivier and Page led •I—o, -J—l, and s—-3, and they needed the match points several times. The mutch wan finished in the semi-dark-nes, (he last set going to double figures. Page played an amazingly good game and worked indofatigubly. ' TE HAPARA CLUB. An open tournament was commenced by members of the To Hapaia Tennis Club yesterday,. when matches in the combined doubles were played. The courts were in first-class condition, and aided by the ideal weather which prevailed' some good games were witnessed. The tournament is to* be continued this afternoon, when a number of matches will be played. Tho ivsult of yesterday's games were as follows:
