END OF COAL STRIKE.

The strike at the Westport-Stockton Coal Company's -mine at Ngakawau, as the result of which 250 men have been idle for the past ten days, ended to-day. The men ceased ' work* on August "14, owing to the alleged conditions in the mine, arid'claimed in respect of several wet places; a, four-hour day and a wage, of £1 per day. To-day, as the result of negotiations- conducted, by Mr. B. L. Hammond on behalf of the company, and Mr. W. Balderstone; on .behalf of the men, a settlement was reached, whereby the men are to resume.work on Monday next. 'The wages and hoars remain the same, but under the settlement ai-rived at, the company is quired to provide roofing material and, oil coats in respect; of certain places in the mine. ';. V
