AUSTRALIANS OUT OF DOUBLES CHAMPIONSHIP.
lAustralian and N.Z Cable Association.!
‘ (Received August 24, 12.-55 a.m.) - BOSTON; Aug. 23.
Williams and Washburn defeated Anderson and -Hawkes, 7—-6, 2 —6, 6—2, 6—4 in the semi-final of the national doubles. This eliminates the Australians from the- doubles championship; Williams and Washburn play the winner of Tilden and Norton versus Alonzo and Johnson for the title oh Saturday. The match was rather disappointing, as all four were never in the game at once, the result being brilliant .patches intermingled with periods of poor play. The Australians started well and got a. lead of 4 —1,/but Haweks then dropped his service, and tha.t was the end ,oU his steadiness. He became erratic thereafter. Anderson played wonderful tennis in the second set, allowing his opponents ynly the second and third games. > '
