JUDGEMENT SUMMONSES.
Three defended judgment summons were dealt with by Mr. E. C. If vvey, S.M., in the Magistrate's Court this morning. , . , Doris Coozo proceeded under a judgment summons against Conrad Hargreav.es, for payment of a debt duo for board Judgment debtor said that his income since May, when the judgment was obtained against him, had been £2 10s a week. He "was a certificated en-j-ineer driver, but was suffering from war injuries. Ho had a wife and three children. The judgment creditor said that she was almost in debt owing to having kept debtor's wife. His Worship adjourned the case for a month, and told debtor that he had better use a little more effort, and pay 5s a week in the meantime. H. J. Buckingham (Mr. R. B. Hill), sought payment by George Hyde of a debt of £ll for rent. To Mr. Hill judgment debtor said that the judgment was obtained in February, and ho admitted having agreed to pay £8 in. March. He got a strained heart, however, and could not pay. He was a laborer, but for three months from February 6he had done no work. On June 1 he started work at £3 a. week and" had six weeks' work. He owed the Muriwai storekeeper £l4 for stores. and he had a wife and eight children to keep. 'At present he was not workiug. ' Mr. Hill: Are you not here deliberately .to, try and beat this man? Debtor: Never in your life. Mr. Hill: You'know l»e is a returned soldier with one leg?—Yes, a good thing for him, too. Mr. Hill: How is it a good thing.— He could not make any more than he is making if ho had two. His "Worship said that the case was not very satisfactory, but ho could not make any order on the facts. August Zenker (Mr. J. Kinder) proceeded against John M. Owen for payment of a judgment obtained for rent in.Mav, 1921. Judgment debtor in reply to* Mr. Kinder, said his wife had handled his money, and of the amount of the debt he had paid £B. He was a watersider, and had a wife and family of four depending on him. He had done his best to pay off the debt. His average earnings were £2 10s to £2 2s a week. The most he had earned was £7 10s a week.
No order was made. : An order for payment forthwith ot £9 10s, in default of nine days' imprisonment, was made in the case, lies and Dudfield v. P. K. Sullivan.
