Elec. Tel. Copyright-United Press Assn.) lAustralian and N.Z. Cable Association.] LONDON, July 9. Mr. Buckley, in tho House of Commons, answering a question regarding tho cost of Major Belcher's visit to New Zealand in connection with tho British Empire Exhibition, said that Major Belcher's salary was £I7OO, plus an entertainment allowance of £BOO. He understood an expenditure amounting to £4OB was incurred by Major Belcher's mission, consisting of four persons, during* their stay in New Zealand from July 3 to August 29. The visit formed part of a tour of all the Dominions. It was difficult, therefore, to estimate what proportions of the cost of the oversea transport should. bo allocated to the New Zealand visit.
