Tho Dempsey-Gibbons fight starts at 3 p.m. Shelby time, corresponding with 5 o'clock New York standard time.
FIFTEEN ROUND FIGHT.
(Australian and N.Z. Cable Association.! (Received July 5, 12.20 p.m.) NEW YORK, July 4. Dempsey defeated Gibbons on the referee's decision. • The fight lasted 15 rounds.
DESCRIPTION OF THE FIGHT.
WILD EXCITEMENT.
(Received July 5, 12.5 p.m.) .SHELBY, July 4. Dempsey's weight was 1881 b. and Gibbons' 175]1b. In round one Dempsey led viciously, landing heavy body blows, and "drew blood from Gibbons' mouth with a left hook. Gibbons retreated, and landed twice on Dempsey's jaw, but tho champion knocked the challenger about easily. Round 2 : Gibbons landed a hard right to the body and then opened Dempsey's eye. Dempsey jarred his opponent by a left to the jaw. Round 3: Gibbons protested against Dempsey mauling him in the clinches. Dempsey pounded his body savagely. Roth exchanged head blows. Round 4: Gibbons landed a rifiht upper cut. Infighting followed. Gibbons was boxing well, and tho champion! was having tronblo in hitting limit
Round 5: Gibbons drove Dempsey back, knocking Ijim to the ropes with two lefts to tho jaw. Dempsey kept clinching, hub Gibbons again drove him hack.
Round 6: Dempsey knocked Gibbons between the ropes as ho came out of a clinch. Gibbons protesting,, Dempsey gave him severe punishment at close) quarters, which ho-continually sought. Round 7: Tho crowd was angry, as Dempsey held and hit, then twice hit Gibbons below tho. belt without the referee protesting. Round 8: Gibbons rocked Dempsey with two lofts to the jaw. ' Dempsey hit low, and the crowd res tiled it. Tho round ended with an exchange of head blows. Round 9: This was mostly a series of clinches. Gibbons was distinctly outboxing the champion, and standing body punishment well. He also landed several hard blows to tho jaw. Round 10: Gihhons improved in the clinches, and also neatly dodsrod Dempsey's upper cuts and; straight hits.
Round 11: Dempsey was outmanoeuvred again and struck below the. belti. The crowd was furious. ,Oibbons retaliated with two hard blows to the jaw and dodged Dcmnrev's counter. (Received July 5. 12.56 p.m.)
Round 12: This was marked by savage in-fighting, Dempsey roughing it all over the ring, and striking low. Round 13 : Gibbons outguessed Dempsey. dodging terrific uppercuts. The challenger, boxing beautifully, forced Dempsey to miss repeatedly. Round 14: Dempsey was tiring. He missed continually at lontf range, and sought to get close. Gibbons' generalship was far superior. ;-j Round 15: Gibbons was now strictly on the defensive. Dempsey, desperately trying for a knock-out, landed a right to tho jaw, badly shaking Gibbons, but the hell soundedi
