To emphasise the service of motor cars in the elimination of distance is to declare tho obvious, yet this is sometimes useful in the process of awakening the mind to facts. The distanco from Hastings to New Plymouth by train is 264 miles, and the 'journey occupies practically two days. A Hastings resident this week covered the distance in actual travelling, in 10 hours 25 minutes, registering an average speed of 24 miles an hour, and with a consumption of benzine of 29 miles to tho gallon. There was nothing outstanding- in this journey to make it specially worth recording • merely it serves to demonstrate the value of motor transport as a time saver in travel, states the Tribune.
