An official welcome) to the officers of the U.S.N. Ontario audi the Governor of American Samoa, Captain Pollock, took place to-day. Salutes between tho Ontario andi H.M.S. Chatham were exchanged at 10 a.m. -Mr. MncVitty, U.S. Consul, paid an official call on Captain Pollock. The. Governor then came ashore and was met) on. Indialf of tho Government at the Consulate offices. The Government representatives are the Hon. G. J. Parr, Messrs. J. I). Gray, Secretory of External Affairs 1 , and .1. Hislop, Under-Secretary of Internal Affairs. A civic reception was held in the Town'Hall at noon, the Mayor, Mr. Gunson, presiding, with the Hon. C. J. Parr to represent the Government. Capfain Pollock will be' the guest afi Government House to-night. Captain Pollock and his staff leave for Rotorua tomorrow morning, spending Wednesday and Thursday there, and proceeding to Wellington on Friday, paying a visit en route to Waitomo Caves. Next week end will Iks spent in Wellington.. On this trip they will be accompanied by Messrs. J. D. Gray and J. Hislop.
