G.R.C. PRESIDENT’S FOURS

The second round of the Gisborne Rowing Club’s President’s Fours was. proceeded with last evening, four races being rowed, over the mile and n-qnartcr emirs©, on the Taruheru river. One of the races was a re-row between S. Holmes’ and E- R. Scarfe, and was, won by llolpies’ crew by a length. In the second race of the evening, A. Langridge, F. Allen, R\ O’Donnell, and G. Smith met and defeated A. ,C. Arthur (str.), A. Roddick, A. Martin, and D. Niaol. Langridge went out after a lead from tho start, and once having established it, held it against Arthur’s determined attempts to regain even terms. The finish was « good one, with little between the boats. CL R. Stone (str.), S. Lette, C”. E. Lees, and K. Woodward proved too strong for B. P. Winter (str.), W. Hankey, L. Albrecht, and F. Davis, for, after an even start, -Stone drew away .and hold a good lead at the footbridge. Winter spurted hard to pick up lost ground, hut Stone answered with a good sprint, and maintained a good lead to tho finish) A. J, . Colebourne (str.), E. Ilankey, E. Williams, and D. Murray mot G. C. Jones (str.), K. Malone, A. Matthews, and C. Hawkins in the last race of the evening. Colebourne got the worst of the start, and when the crews swung out, Jones had a, lead of a length, which lie increased to a length and a-quarter at the footbridge. Colebourne spurted near Derby street and picked up a length, and an exciting finish ensued, Jones getting home by a. canvas.

POVERTY BAY CLUB. Racing in the single scull races for Dir. A. Swan’s medal was continued last, evening on the Tavuhcni river over the three-quarter mile course. Mr. L. Illingworth officiated as starter, and Dir. K. S. McLeod ag judge. The first race was between E, Corbett (ssecsj and If. Twigjey (Msecs). Twig'ley made tho most of his 9 seconds start and had a fair lead when Corbett left the post. ■Corbett drew level at, the Derby street bridge, and both men then spurted, Corbett winning by a canvas. The second race was between E. Fitzmaurice (Bsecs) and F. Stichbury (9secs). Both men got away practically together apd rowed op level terms (o (lie Derby street- bridge, where .
