MARKETING OF LEMONS.

GROWERS’ ORGANISATION

A meeting of growers of citrus fruits was held at Tauranga on Monday to consider matters in regard to the pool system of marketing lemons. Mr. €. H. Scott, a Henderson fruitgrower, said the pool system was a sound one for the handling and marketing of lemons, and had passed the experimental stage. He emphasised the need of sending to the market only fruit of the best quality. The growers in the Henderson district had signified their determination to continue to support the lemon pool, and lie hoped Tauranga citrus growers would do likewise.

Several speakers urged that representations should be made to the Government asking that the duty on imported lemons should be increased.

Mr. li. Becroft. of Auckland, explained the working of the lemon pool. He furnished particulars of a new dehydrating plant that had been installed by an Auckland firm for drying lemons, and predicted that the process would he successful.

It was suggested that it would be advantageous to make a comprehensive exhibit of lemons at Christchurch at an early date, the cost to be borne collectively by growers in the Auckland Province.

Mr. Scott said that a citrus association of all growers in the Auckland Province should be established, and a motion was carried unanimously expressing the continued support of growers to the lemon pool.
