Reference to the proposal to establish a butter pool was made by the chairman of directors, Mr. G. R. Moore, at the half-yearly meeting of shareholders of the Kia Ora Company to-day. He stated that the directors had opposed itThe pool had fallen through. If a ppoi had been established it would have been detrimental to the company. Mr. Moore asked for an expression of the meeting whether or not those present were in favor or not of the dairy pool. Air. E. P. Roberts moved that the meeting makes a strong protest to the Government at the proposal of establishing a daily pool.—Mr. Gallagher seconded.—The motion was carried.

A road roller, marathon was the first official event of the Nelson Mardi Gras, and thousands watched the race up and down 'Trafalgar street. The greatest hilarity prevailed. There were two entries for the race, the Nelson City Council’s Wairoa Belle, driven by Driver Amos Taylor, and the more modern Waimea County Council’s Sasanof. Wairoa Belle weighed in at 121 tons and Sasanof at 10 tons. The preliminary gallops were watched with interest, and each machine had its warm favorites.
