PEACE SHIELD TOURNAMENT.

The principal attraction amongst local howlers'for the New Year holidays will be the annual competition for the handsome Peace Shield, under the auspices of the Gisborne Bowling Centre. The contest will take place on the Kalmtia greens on Monday and Tuesday next, and judging by the calibre of some of the teams entered, the competition should prove an interesting one. In all 18 rinks have entered, comprising eight from the Gisborne Club, seven from Kalmtia, and three front Poverty Bay, and these have been cut up into three sections.

The. Queensland bowlers were defeated by the Canterbury Club. Each scored two and a-half wins, but the points are in favor of Canterbury—ll2 to 105. The visitors leave for the South tomorrow.
