In order\fo carry out concerted measures for preventing the spread of cattle tick in the counties of Cook, Matakaoa, Uawn',- Waiapu, and Waikohu, these local bodies are to be authorised, under a clause in the Washing-up Bill, to spend .luring the year ending March, 1923, a sum not exceeding £6:SO. These councils, or :inv two of them, may, in subsequent years, spend jointly £<>ls for the same purpose. The Bill provides that the contribution to be made in any year by any council towards such joint expenditure ihall be such a sum as bears to the 'total expenditure for such year the same proportion as the rateable value of the county bears to the total rateable value of nil the counties sharing such expenditure.
