ARRIVALS. Wednesday, October 5. To Arolia, aux. schooner (12.45 a.m.), 56 ton's,. Carpenter, from Wairoa. Port Denison, s.s. (9 a.m.), 10,534 tons, G. T. Hutchinson, from Sydney. Putiki, s.s. (9.10 a.m.) 409 tons, Norling, from Napier and Wellington. The Arahura was dispatched fi'om Auckland at 5.30 p.m. yesterday for Tokomaru Bay. and Gisborne. She is to be tendered here&afc 10 o’clock to-night with one launch for inward and .outward passengers,, and sails later for Napier. Returning do Gisborne on Friday, she, is to be tendered at 6 a.m. with , the first launch, and' again at 7'p.m. for outward passengers. The steamer afterwards goes back to Napier, which port she. is to leave again at 7 a.m. on Saturday for Gisborne. The Arahura passed’Te Arnroa at 2 p.m. to-day, and is due at Tokomaru Bay about 5.30 p.m. She should leave the latter port about 6.15 p.m., and is expected to arrive at Gisborne about 10 p.m. The Tiroa arrived at Ilicks Bay at 10 a.m. yesterday from Gisborne.. The aux. schooner, Fairburn is expected to sail to-night for Tokomaru Bay and Auckland. The vessel is taking a cargo of manure. The ketch Huanui should finish loading timber, and general cargo to-morrow. The vessel , will ■ then sail, for Auckland when the wind is favorable. The,scow Cathkit is expected to finish loading a full cargo of timber at Gisborne to-morrow, and is to subsequently set sail for Sydney. Transhipments ex the Paloona . werg brought to Gisborne to-day ‘ by the Putiki. * Our Wairoa correspondent- writes : The Te Arolia brought 37,231 ft. of timber from Gisborne for various .consignees. She left again at 6 o’clock to-day (luesday) for another load, and two more are due shortly. Two heavy motor lorries have .arrived to haul timber from the Waikaremoana sawmill,’ so. that the timber supply is likely to be satisfactory for some time. The dredge Rubi Seddon arrived ■at Wellington on Saturday morning from Wanganui for an overhaul. She will subsequently be sent up the. East Coast by the Government. Captain Simpson is in command. The Minister of Defence received a wireless message from Commodore Hotham, of H.M.S. Chatham, on Saturday last, reporting that it was impossible to land on Sunday Island on the previous day, and that the wrecked schooner Columbia River was breaking up. A later message stated that four of the six men left on the island had been rescued, but- that the mate, named Nvdel, and a seaman, named Anderson, had not at that time been recovered. A message received on Sunday stated that one of the two missing men had been sighted just after sunset on night, and it was hoped to have him on board, and to collect the, last of the party the following day (Monday). The latest message received st-ates that all the men had been recovered, and that, the Chatham had sailed for Auckland. The party had had a camp ashore on the elifT with plenty of provisions and a fair amount of water. Malcolm, and 25 steerage. PORT DENISON FROM SYDNEY. The C.. and D. Line steamer Port Denison arrived at Gisborne at 9 a.m. to-day from Sydney. The vessel, n-nich was six days out, having left the Australian port on September 30, came round the North Cape She experienced an uneventful voyage; in tlie words of the captain, the only thing sighted was an albatross. Tho steamer went out to Australia .with general cargo from England. She came over to Gisborne in. ballast, with the exception of 500 tons of lead shipped in Sydney for England, to commence Homeward loading. The Port Denison is practically a new ship, having been constructed at Belfast about years ago. She is well fitted up for the carriage and rapid handling of cargo, and/ is of a shelter deck type. A feature is the wide expanse of deck room. Captain T. G. Hutchinson ip in command. KUMARA DUE TO-MORROW. The S.S. and A. Co.’s steamer Ku< mara cleared Wellington at 7 o’clock this morning for Gisborne. She is to be outside the. bay about 8 a.m. tomorrow, and is expected, to arrive at Hicks Bay at 6 p.m. to-morrow. A start will probably be made with her loading at the latter port immediately on arrival. The steamer returns to Gisborne, and should sail from here about Wednesday, the 19th inst., for London, via Sydney, South Africa, and Hull. TELEGRAPHIC SHIPPING.
