JOB CONTROL.
INSTANCE IN. WEST AUSTRALIA. LUMPERS DISOBEY OFFICIALS. PERTH, Feb. 27.—The first instance of job* control in this State -occurred at Fremantle. The steamer Innerton had a fire in her bunker. After the flames were extinguished the captain decided to take 600 tons of Collie coal out of the bunkers and re-bunker with New South Wale's coal. The lumpers demanded special pay for handling the hot coal/ ’ - ," " .' A, -. A Reference .Board was summoned, and unanimously 1 agreed- on 5.s ail hour for the men actually handling .the coal,. and ordinary rates for others .concerned. The lumpers demanded bs 9(1 an hour for everybody on the job,'and refused to recognise the Reference Board, even when ordered by the Waterside Workers Federation in Melbourne to do so. . The men struck work, but the captain of the Innerton, rather than suffer delay, agreed to - pay ■ their demands. ■ ■
