The Wairarapa Ago states: The passing of the Thursday half-holiday was somewhat noisily celebrated in Masterton on Saturday night. Queen street was packed with citizens. The Municipal Band marched through tho town discoursing music. It was followed shortly afterwards by tho Caledonian Society's Pipe Band in full regalia, which completely drowned the strains ol “Abcy.” After the Highlanders had proceeded to a function in the Pafk, tho Salvation Army kept tho ball rolling for some time, when “Tipperary" a long-suffering favorite with the Army—• was resuscitated. The solitary barber’s shop was well patronised, and other businesses that were open did a good trade. With the exception that the streets were somewhat poorly lighted, the town bore the ordinary Saturday night appearance.
