GAS WORKS PURCHASE.
COMPANY’S OFFER DECLINED. Tn further reference lo Me subject of the purchase by the Borough Council of the Gisborne gas works, the secretary of the company advised that the pri.e previously stated, viz., £125,GC0, was tiro bedrock prico which the company would consider accepting. The Mayor said ho considered the prico was excessive, and he was compelled to ask'- councillors to turn the offer 'down. He thought if the Council purchased the gas works it would le joining a rope round its’neck. It would even pay the Council to go into a scheme of its own. Air De ‘Costa moved that the Ca.-t Company be thanked for their offer. Cr. Lawless; Thank them for such an offer. No, just receive the-letter." It was decided to receive the letter.
