MANDATE TO JAPAN.
OF INTEREST TO AUSTRALIA. (Received March 9, 9.30 a.m.) WASHINGTON, March 8. The State Department has revealed the text of the mandate granted to Japan over the islands of the Pacific, which the latter accepted with the reservation that Japanese citizens should not be subject To discriminatory or disadvantageous treatment in other mandate territories. It is understood Japan’s contention referred particularly to territories mandated to Australia. Officials are particularly interested. in the Japanese mandate, since it specifically provides that the consent of the Council of the League shall be required for any modification of its terms.—A. and N.Z.C.A..
