POULTRY INDUSTRY.
THE DOMINION CONFERENCE. AUCKLAND, this day. The Dominion Poultry Association’s Conference opened thig morning. The delegates were welcoffied by the Mayor Mr. Scott, president-elect, the chairman, said that 30 affiliated bodies and 10,000 poultry keepers were represented. He spoke earnestly of unfair competition by the importation of egg pulp from China. He said, that when they got protection and had an assured wheat supply they would be able 1 to report marked progress in the industry. . ■ The secretary, Mr. Merritt, said that if the Government failed to prohibit the importation of egg pulp other tactics must be adopted, and an endeavor made to secure trade for our own egg producers. Mr. Harris, M.P., said lie felt sure that all members of the House were with the association in the matter of Chinese egg pulp. He thought he could say the Government would next session introduce a Bill on the subject. The retiring president said that one way out of the difficulty would be to have a fair price for eggs fixed by the Board of Trade. If there was not enuogh local supply to meet bakers’ requirements ja permit might bo granted to import, not from China, but from Australia.—Press Assn.
