ENGLISH RUGBY SEASON.

OLD RULES TO BE ADHERED TO. LONDON, Sept. 10. There is every prospect of a successful Rugby football season to celebrate the ; Rugby Union's jubilee. Last season was 1 a comparatively poor success, as not sufficient time had' olapsed to repair the ravages of tho war. The interval hns now produced a crop of promising younger men, enabling the old stagers to retire. Fow county games \rill be played, but club fixtures only' given next week. Rugby Union circles' regret that tho Northern Union codo has made snch progress m New .Zealand as well as m Australia, but. there . is no likelihood that the rules will bfi amended to meet the wishes of Australia nnd New Zealand, even if international tours cease as a consequence. It ia expected that feouth Africa will adhere strictly to the union code. Followers of the rival code m North England -are elated at the progress m the Antipodes. Full reports of test matches played m Australia and A ew Zealand are read with great interest. There is an indication of a highly successful season m the north, despite the couiiter attractions of the Soccer game.— A. and X.2.CA-.
