TRAINING IN HOME WORK.

WELLINGTON, this day.

An eloquent plea was made by Mrs. F. E. Baume, at the* Technical School Conference to-day, for the better training of girls m work at home. The present domestic economy teaching m schools was largely a farce. About 7000 girls who had left school had received no secondary education, and went into a blind alley of occupation m shops, factories, and offices. Men knew nothing about the proper education! of girls, and women . should have representation on Education Boards and other administrative bodies of school managers. The State must undertake the training' of girls m home management if overburdened mothers were to get any relief. Without such relief it was hopeless to ,jtalk about the declintn.g birthrate. The vocation of a home assistant or domestic worker should be as dignified. as that of a. nurse. Th'e tfbolo future of the race, depended on the well-being of mother and child. Girls should be instructed m the whole science of home management to insure nourishment ' and the maintenance of the physique o£ children for good citizenship. Tlie scope ' ranged far. beyond cookery. The conference adopted a motion that the board of managers of a school must include at least one woman. — Press Assn.
