Wellington, last night. Fire was discovered m the 'tween decks of No. 1 hold m. tire steamer Raranga to-night. . The liner was fully loaded with gejneral cargo, including flax and wool, and was to sail for London on Saturday at daybreak. The city brigade was caUed out and broke througUi the insulated door m order to get at the fire, but without success. As the opening of the "door made the fire -worse the door had to bo closed again. The brigade will either have to cut through the decks or lift the smouldering cargo from the hold. — Press Assm

The Raranga recently loaded at Tokomarii Bay, where she* took on 15,989 telescoped carcases of mutton.. As far as can be ascertained locally it would, appear that the x fire is not near the Tokomaru cargo. \
