TE JIUTE COLLEGE TEAM.

• ■ ♦ The To Aute College team arrived m Gisborne by the Arahura; this morning from Napier, and meet the Gisborne High School team on the Reserve to-morrow .m the preliminary round of the Moascar Cup. The visitors are billeted by old T« Aute students residing m Gisborne, ana return south on Wednesday next. The names of the team are: Pine (capt.). Peina (vice-capt.), Haitana, Tahiwi, McPherson Chambers Matamua Thomnson Walker, White, Wirimu, ' Bennett,- Tibbie^ Cliisley; and Reihana; emergencies: Coates, Sparks, and Ruawai. Mr. Scully, a master of the college, is managing the team. The average weight of the team is 10*. 811}.^ and the backs are considered as good a sot as the college has produced for some years, while the team comprises a good set of dashing forwards. The team-, according to original arrangements, was to have played this afternoon and returned to-night, but the boys were nleased when arrangements were made for their extended visit, which would thus enable them to get over the effects' of the sea trip before the match was, played. The teami met the leading senior tenm m the competition under the. ll. n. Rifgby Union fa Napier recently, and alter n good match were defeated by 11 points to 8. Three suggested names of referees were proffered them, and Mr. G. Gilletl was chosen to referee the match. On. the arrival of the tender at the wharf tnte morning the members of the High School team, who were present on the wharf, gave three hearty cheers ioi the visitors, which were lustily responded to. The Mayor (Mr. G. Wildish) then, m an approprfate speech, extended a hearty welcome to the visitors, and expressed the. wish that they would have an enjoyable time while m Gisborne. Mr. P. Foote (Rector of the Gisbomc High School) also voiced a welcome to the visitors, and hoped they wouUt have a goocl^ time, although, lie added, the local boys were out to beat them. (Laughter.) He endorsed the remarks of the Mayor. Mr. WI Friday, as an old Te Aute College boy, and a member of the management committee of the P.B. Rugby Union, endorsed the remarks mado by the previous speakers, and on behalf of the- visitors thanked them for the welcome. The only point on which lie did not agree with Mr. Foote was that tho visitors would take "some" beating. (Laughter.) The visitors wrre then taken charge of by their respective friends, and this afiemoon a practice, match was held on the Reserve. Tlie arrangements for the entertainment .of the visitors are extensive, and includr a dinner on Saturday evening, and a picture evening at the Opera House, tlie latter at the invitation of the manager of Everybody's Pictures.
