Tlio London wool sales closed quiet. Some 90,089 bales were catalogued, of which about half were, sold. Tho withdrawals were entirely of inferior quality, both merinos and crossbreds* especially the latter, which did not reach Government reserves. Merinos were m large supply, particularly greasy West Australians, -better parcels of which sold well at tho June level of prices, especially for sorts suitable for Continental spinners. Scojireds declined 5 per cent, and carbonising sorts the same. Fine crossbreds met a wider demand and advanced '0 per cent. . Mediums were unchanged.' Scoured lambs dealined 5 per cent. At tho Antwerp sales La Plata' lots ■vere offered, bub met no bids.— A. a^id : N.Z.C.A.
Cotton, Liverpool quotations: American middling upland, August delivery, 25.16 pence per pound. Hemp is dull; May to July shipment, 53d. Jute is -iniet; August to September shipments 46d. Rubber, fine hard Para Is lid; plantation, first latex crepe, Is 10 5-8 d; •smoked ribbed sheet, Is 9Ad. Copra, Tulv to September, 46d nominal. Linseed oil -•"TO per ton, equal to 5s 10d a gallon. Mr. Fred Gray, .auctioneer, reports on his weekly horse and poultry sale neat -m Saturday: Good entries w<^e received for horses and sheep dogs- A larg entry of poultry came forward, and some good prices were obtained for the special entry of white rock pullets and cockerels and also for pens of white leghorn hens. The following prices were realised: Horses (to entries)— l station hack and saddle, £10: 1 harness mare, saddle, bridle, and cover. £6; 1 hack, £3 10s; 1 do., £2. Dogs (6 °n tries): No sales. Poultry 173 entries): White rock cockerels, 5s to 10s tin racnW.R. pullets. 8s to 9s each; W.R. hens, ">« (-1 to 0s tid each; black orpington roosters, 5s 3d lo (ss. each; 8.0. cockerels. r )S to 5s Gd each; White leghorn roosters and cockerels, 4s 3d to 5s 6d each; hens, 0s 3d to 7s 6d each. Ordinary lines: Roosters -is Gd to 5s 3d each, hens 5s 4d to 5s 7d each.
Messrs Murray, Roberts, and Co. today received the following cable from their London house : "The wool solos have closed. Crossbred fine, best description iflvnnced 5 perc ent;; other descriptions, market shows no material change."
