(To the Editor of the Herald.) ? - Sir,— l note with interest that J**. Ewan Cameron is •' endeavoMng to -'establish- a pipe band m Gisborne. Although «ot myself hailing from the "land o' cakes" 1 have a. profound veneration for everything '> of a Scottish national character, a::d especially for Scottish music, the bagpipes, etc. To all who inherit Scottish blood, and cherish noble traditions of bygone days, when the skirl of tnc pipes played such an. important part m stimulating those of our ancestors wno were engaged m the great struggles for freedom, the establishment of a pipe Inner, and with it tho revival of many old Scottish national customs now m danger of extinction through long disuse, is an object all-worthy of accomplish?, nieut, and which should bo striven for* There appears to be a large" number ol Scotsmen m Gisborne and adjacent districts,, and no -reason -apparently exists why Mr. Ewan Cameron's, efforts in 'me direction of establishing a pipe band shoulft not be crowned with success, i trust that all Scotsmen, and especially those who value'and cherish their national traditions, will take the matter up with, the enthusiasm It deserves, and see to it: that those stirring events of history which have 'so deservedly passed Into some of the most romantic themes of uatlonal song and siory, are occasionally at least presented to u$ m the 60ulstlrrlng music at the pipes.r-l am, etc, CHARLES ROWELL.
