PROPOSED PARK ON HAITI HILL.
(To the Editor of the Herald.) Sir,— l • notice* that Mr Darton is -still advocating the Kaiti Hill- parks scheme and has dragged the Mayor, Town. Clerk,, and two or three- Councillors un there to back . him up., Now If Mr- barton .will look back a bit he will see that at a largely-attended public, meeting this scheme was turned. down and the erection of a suitable monument 'in a ..'central position decided upon. Mr. Darton migiit alio remember that at i the. first public meeting he, expres-jed liimsclf' as. fqllows':---"That whatever was decided- uipoii should have the whole-hearted , support of all." Weil, sir, the .monument has been decided i-ppn, and 1 wouid ask is. Mr Darton giving It his support?. H Mr Darton and ,a fe\V others are determined to" .have; a jark,,. why not expend -.their energies on Anzac Park, Score Pom% Kaiti, wheiie tlie soil and conditions are suitable ' to inn growth of trees. #nd flowers", arid could oe made a lovely, spot.' i'here ' vy'ouid be no expense m .a costly , road, the ppkwp pf which would be aft' least JEidO a yeur. There' would be no land to. buy, ho'biTcnsiye smell frpm freezing works, and a certainty of what - r would 'be plantca gi-owing. As the monument has „«•„ decided upon as a suitable memorial ' to the men who made the supreme sacHflce I would suggest that the Anzacr Park should be improved and a -column -'-uc 'shaft-- put up there, as an emblem of Peace and Victory. A spring-- foot 'bridge. thrown across the river at a small expense, would bring all Whataupoko withn easy distance of the* park. I hope those who are interesting themselves m this: matter will show this park to Mr. Button as well, as. the Kaiti.- Hill.— Yours etc.: ; ■ ■ ■•:. ; ■ .. , .-'-,' v . ONE OF THE PUBLIC.
