WAIKOHU RETURNED SOLDIERS' ASSOCIATION.

A meeting of tlie above Association Was held on Tuesday evening In the supper rcom of Hundleby's Mali. There was a good , attendance of members, and the chair was "taken by Mr. J. B. Poyntcr, president of the Association. • The first business discussed was the need for a paid secretary to look after the business of the Association. On the motion of Mr. E. Swainson, seconaen „y, Mr. Smart, Mr. J. G. Applcton was unanimously elected. • On the motion of the chairman, a hearty vote of thanks was accorded to Mr. O. Smart for his past services, which, owing; to pressure of his own business, he could not continue to give. The president then brought up the matter of securing land for men m the Waikohu County who havo been unsuccessful m the ballots for Government land, or were not hi a position to secure land privately. He had approached Messrs. E. M. Iltitchinson, H. Telford, arid C.Gaudrodger, and these gentlemen had very kindly agreed to act as an advisory hoard liv recommeding suitable blocks of land for settlement and m selecting candidates. Mr, G- Smart proposed that these three gentlemen and the president of the Waikohu R.s..\. be olected to form advisory board. The mover having agreed to a request to allow his namo'to be added, the motion Was seconded anil carried nem con. The secretary was instructed to apply to the Lands and Survey Department for particulars of all blocks of land open for selection by returned soldiers In the Hawke's Bay land district for members' information. A list was drawn up of all properties m the district , which would be recommended to the advisory board for investigation as to their suitability for cutiinr? up. Tho question of purchasing the Te Karalca hall for the use of the Association and as a business proposition was discussed, and on the motion of Mr. Davcy a committee comprising Messrs. Smart, E. Swainson, Goldsmith, Baty and the chairman was set up to go fully into the matter and draw up a report. It was resolved to increase the -nemhers' subscription to 7s. per annum ! On the motion of Mr. Goldsmith, it was decided to issue a distinctive badge for members of this branch, and the secretary was instructed to get informatic n as "to the probable cost and to obtain samples.
