HOSPITAL BOARD.

, A meeting of i,he Hospital and Charitable Aid Board was held yesterday at the hospital. Present: Messrs R. Johnston (m the chair), H. H. DeCosta, A. M. Lewis, W. J. McCliskie, G. W. Humphreys, H. White, J. Swain, and C. Gibson. The Public Trust Department advised that the Department had no authority to make loans to Charitable Aid Boards but that m the case of*the Board's application for a loan of .AV.i.OO) it woum be advisable for the conu-ibutory bodies to combine m raising a joint specia. loan and bearing the expense. ~" In connection with the same mattei a letter from Mr H. Kenway intimated j that he was intending "to go into this subject m Wellington. Mr Humphreys moved that the mattet be left over until the result of Mr Konway's efforts were known.—Mr McCliskie seconded the motion.-—Carried*. • Mr Burr, of the firni of Burr and Mirfield, architects, presented the. plans oi the proposed new ward for tho hospital. Mr Burr was authorised to proceed tc (Wellington with Ihe plans, and to' accom pany Mr Kenway to discuss the plan: with the Department of Public Health The payment of a taxi fare of a patienl admitted from the. Coast was authorised m consideration of the special circumstances of the case. The treasurer's report showed the receipts, for the month ending 13th May at £435 10s Bd, and tho total debit to date *"5556 lis lid. Tho debit balance at May 13 Was £5121 Is 3d. The foes charged at the hospital,amounted to £274 16s. The medical superintenment reported that since the last return 134 patients had been admitted, 115 discharged, and ■six died m the institution. Tho number remaining m the hospital at 10th May was 122. Of the infectious cases included m the totals three were admitted, three had died, two had been discharged and one remained. The working of the' hospital was quite satisfactory. The lady superintendent's report stated that one sister had resigned and left the hospital, one sister and three nurses were away on holiday leave, one nurse was away on sick leave, and one nursing sister had entered tho hospital. On the domestic , staff a laundry maid, a wards-j maid and a wardsman had left, while a new Wardsman had been engaged. 1 A "supplementary report of the lady, superintendent stated that two probationers had been; taken on the nursing j staff., The lady superintendent also re-i commended that Sister Booth bo appoint-! Ed to the position of theatro sister and dispenser. The custodian of tho Old People's Home reported that the number admitted during the month was four, and the number left five. There were now twenty inmatos m tho home. District. Nurso McDonald reported having visited 24 patients during tho month. Sister Watkins Taylor, at To Karaka, visited 74 European and 21 Maori patients. District Nurse. Clark, Tolaga Bay, attended three cases. Tho health inspector reported that for the borough the total number of infectious cases from April 13th ofc May 11th was' forty,- comprising 37 influenza, one pneumonia, one phthisis, and one cry-
