JHE PRINCE IN THE SOUTH

•■ SNOW-COVERED HILLS. ! . (Per Press Association.) i BALCLUTHA, this day. I Rain fell during the na^ht and a fresh southerly wind brought with it a foretaste ot real winter, covering all the hill lands with a thin coating of snow. : When the Royal train left Dunedin at a lit.tie after ten, the sun was shining brilliantly and the low foothills of the mountains presented a magnificent spectacle. Here and there along the railway patches of snow lay on the ground and the air was keen. j Tho first stop was made at Milton, I where the townspeople gathered in force at the station, and tho usual presentation of an address and inspection of troops took place. Before the train moved out a few flakes of snow fell, and as Baclutha was approached quite a heavy fall commenced, driven by a strong southerly. People at the way stations and at Stirling were not deterred by the climatic conditions, however, and turned out to cheer the Prince as the train passed through.
