TOWN EDITION.

-. In the case of Frederick '1. Lancaster v. Frederick S. Bowen, claim £12 odd, heard this afternoon, judgment was given by Mr. J. S. Barton, S.M., for defendant-, with costs £2 3s. The Wellington Y.M.C.A. has inaugurated a public appeal for £15,000 with ' which to extend in a thoroughly practical way its invaluable work among the young ! men of the community. Everyone is ' acquainted with the severity of the house ; shortage, and the appeal is in connection '• with one of the worst phases ot" that ' national problem. Wellington is the great centre for public servants, and it is re- 1 garded as an important feature of a cadet's training that he should be acquainted with the methods of the cent tral office of the department to which he is attached. Thus there is in Wellington a larger population of temporary dwellers than in any other city, and the problem of board and lodgings is a perpetual difficulty. The board of directors has taken over a large block of buildings known as "Donbank," formerly a private hotel, and will conduct it as a hoste) for boys and young men with small incomes. •At a largely- attended meeting of guarantors and suppliers to the proposed dried milk factory at Morrinsville, it was decided by a large majority to proceed with erection of a factory ai Morrinsville. The factory is being erected by the Milk Foods Co., Ltd., and negotiations have, been proceeding for some considerable time. The factory will be a two-unit one. having capacity for dealing with milk irom 3,500 cows, or with a condensor 4,000 cows. The cost will be, £45.000, and it is anticipated it will be completed by the autumn. It is stated that milk from 3,358 cows is already guaranteed, and there will be no difficulty in securing over 4,000 cows. The original plan was for a three-unit factory, but- en account of the cost the capacity had to 'be reduced. An idea of the prices that can be expected to rule for. butter after July next was given to an Auckland Star reporter by an authority directly concerned in the industry. He stated that the control in connection with the Imperial Government's contract to purchase the Dominion's output would end on July 31, after which date there would [ be an open market for the supply, with the result that at least from 8d to 9d per pound more than the present price would be offered. Questioned as to the possibility of the threatened butter famine in Sydney affecting New Zealand prices, one informant said that there was no such possibility, at least not until after July 31. Nothing in the meantime could possibly affect prices. The Imperial Government has been taking the New Zealand outpu^ for the last three years. The Post thus criticises what it terms j the "Ministerial Re-shuffle": Another! instalment of the rearrangement of the j Cabinet leaves the Prime Minister over- ] loaded with three tasks (Prime Minister- j ship, Railways, and Finance) that are beyond his personal capacity, and probably beyond the capac : ty of any member of the present Parliament. It also leaves | in the Cabinet, apparently as a per- ! manency, Sir William Hei'Vies. a muchcriticised Minister who has done little or nothing to take the country into his confidence. This Minister also has charge of three Departments. Sir Francis Bell — who, according to previous rumors, was to retire along with Sir William Herries and the two other Cabinet . knights — remains in a dual capacity well within his powers ; his tenure now appears to be uncertain.. Of the remaining seven members of the Ministerial team, still incomplete, Mr. Coates is a promising colt at weight-for-atce. but the impost of Postmaster-Generalship on top I of Public Works may stay him a bit, and Defence would probably be a crusher. Mr. Parr (Education and Public Health) is a political three-year-old who may develop into a first-class performer. The form of the atred members, Messrs. Guthrie (Lands) and Nosworthy (Agriculture), is well known. Mr. Lee (Justice and External Affairs) and Mr. Anderson (Internal Affairs) are new and untried ; and Dr. Pomare may be taken as read. The net result is a colorless combination of ten men, whose number . may 7 have to be increased Avhen certain junmentioned Departments (including , Labor, Forestry, Mines, and Commerce or Board of Trade) are allotted.
