(Mercantile Branch) • report on the Matawhero, sale hold on Wednesday, May 19, as^foliows: There was a fair attendance, of farmers, but' it was quite, evident that for, t'hev.time being at any fate their wants have been supplied, and consequently there was a decline in most of the prices. Tlio fact of yarding over 30,000 sheep on two,', successive Wednesdays, at this time of year, in our opinion very materially , helped prices to decline. The following were yarded : '1664' fat sheep, 59 fat cattle, 14,000 store - sheep, 250 storo cattle. Pat Sheep: Extra prime heavy ewes made 345, primo ewes 31s, lighter sorts from 26s to 30s 6d, primo fat wethors 355, lighter sorts 32_ to 345. Fat Cattle: Vory few steers came forward, and those that did were not quite finished. Cows were in good numbers and r some' very good pens yarded. Steers sold from £11 to £12, well finished heavy cows made to'£l3'2s 6d, good^cows made £12, lighter sorts £9 to £11. Store Sheep: Tho yarding Was hiuch in excess of farmers' wants, consequently prices were much easier 'and a big proportion were not sold under the'haui.mer. although a lot of peiis' were disposed of privately afterwards. 'Hoggets (good) riinde 20s 6d to ! 21s, and for a yoryv nice line of woolly j hoggets 23s 3d was given, poorer sorts j wore hard to quit' at from 12s 6d to 'l7s 6d. Ewes: Forward ompty ewos were still selling well although they alda showed /a ' drop "and pup liho carrying good Accccb and condition 1 sold up to 27s 6d, but about 23s to 25s Was the ruling prices. Wethers: A very nice ' lino of 250 2-tooth wethers 'nearly all fat made 32s 6d, others made f iom 23b to 30s 6d ; one line of medium

4 and 6-tooths made 28a 3d. Store Cattle: Good store bullocks (3-year) made up to £11 7s 6d, empty cows sold for £4 10s, young "cattle at about late market rates. Dairy cows sold fairly well, especially anything showing well in calf.
