At the annual meeting of the British Chamber of Commerce at Shanghai a resolution was adopted favoring China's claim to Shantung. Mr. A. W. Burkill. chairman of the directorate, in a speech, said that Japan was taking deliberate steps to control the whole and the surrounding harbor, docks, wharves, and railroad terminals at Ismgtao, and every obstacle was being put m the way of other nationals acquiring any property in the business centre.
