In the Assembly a 'petition bearing eight thousand signatures was presented by the Congress League of Municipalities, Chambers of Commerce, and other public bodies of white inhabitants of the Transvaal, asking the House to take into consideration the Asiatic menace The mine workers' union of Johannesburg passed a resolution demanding the immediate nationalisation of all gold mines, with control by the workers.
