WELLINGTON WOOL CLIP.

A POOR SEASON. (Special to the Herald.) WELLINGTON, this day. The Wellington wool clip is coming forward quickly, but indications support previous reports that the season has been poor for quality. A number of dips m from stations whence hogget w<ooL is generally received itn sound condition are this year badly grown, tender, tick-staiined, and short m staple. Not much ewe wool has yet been handled, but what has been received is m fair order, certainly light m condition. Here, again, wool is thinner and j wastier than that of last year. Wool ! generally shows want of substance, and ! lacks those valuable properties of light- ! conditioned wool that is really Wiell The causes of this, unsatisfactory state of affairs are to be found m the exceptional and most unfavorable, weather experienced throughout the Dominion. The autumn was bad, the winter severe, and the spring bad, lacking growth. Sheep have been ill-nourished, and this is reflected m the growth of the wool. Growers are expected to be more or lesg disappointed with their returns, as although wool is lighter m grease, -<vt it is deficient m other .valu-able-qualities. . There is less wool, too, being cut from the sheep. Instances were furnished of receipt of 120 bales from quarters where 167 bales were received last year, and of 49 baJes where there were 6/) bales sent m last year. It has been estimated that there will be falling off m production — that is companing the value of wool this year with that of, last year— of fully 5 per cenit. for • Wellington district, which includes Wellington, Wanganui, Waitara, Blenheim, and Nelson. It represents a cash reduction of over £200,000.
