COMPLIMENT TO A NOTABLE 'V . EXPONENT. At a very pleasant function at the Makarakhl Hotel last «w«|ung, Sir James Carroll was called upon to make a presentation .on behalf of the members ! of the local boxing fraternity, to the foremost featherweight boxer m the Dominion, Mr Lin Robinson. Mr. Bert Lowe, also at one time a 'fine exponent of the game, introduced Sir James to a large gathering. J In complimenting Mr Robinson on his ' past performances, Sir James referred to the fact that the sport was gaining popularity through the excellent way the boxing associations supervised and carried on the game m. New Zealand. One suggestion he would like, to make ' was that the local talent required "topping-pff," which could best be ob--1 tamed under masters m Australia. He 1 was greatly pleased to mrike the presentation, on behalf of Robinson's friends, of a. handsome gold watch. Th© Hon. W. D. S. Mac Donald also referred to the high public, standing of Mr Robinson and of the game generally.
