HIGH SCHOOL BOARD.

The Gisborne High School Board met yesterday afternoon, when there were \ present : Messrs. „ H. Mann (chairman), J. R. Kirk, A. Fordo Matthews, J. Kinder, A. C. Steele, J. W. Bright, J. W. Nolan, L. T. Burnard, and the rector (Mr. F. Foote). The Napier High School Board wrote offering to donate a cup for the winning cricket team, to be competed, for by Napier, Palmerston North, and Gisborne.—Received. The waikanae Beach Improvement Society forwarded a circular letter set■ting out the aims of the society and soliciting donations.-:— lt » was decided to write, pointing out that although the board had full sympathy with the movement it regretted that no contribution could be made from the funds of the board. Mr. H. E. Yardley wrote offering to sell to the board half a section m Bayly Btreet for the purpose of a right-of-way for the High School. — The offer \ was accepted. Mr. Matthews offered his services free of charge m connection with the survey work, which was acknowledged by the other members of tlie board. • i The chairman reported that it was decided at a special committee meet-l ing to engage the seirvices of Messrs. | Burr and Mirfield as architects to draw up plans and specifications m connection with the improvements and • additions! to the High Sohool! I Messrs. Burr and Mirfield attended the meeting and produced plans of- the buildincrs as they stood at present. They reported that the moist urgent additions needed were a new science laboratory, I extra classrooms, cloakroom, and rooms i for the taking of girls m chemistry, j cookery, and laundry work. The rooms' should be erected apart from the other buildings, and would be the first step m the direction of a separate girls' school. A gymnasium and swimming bath were also needed urgently. Additional buildings were recommended to the^ rectory and dormitory, and an additional wing to the girls' hostel. The chairman congratulated the architects on the expeditiously-prepar-ed report and intimated that the matter would have to be considered at a : later meeting, when the estimates could be produced. I Mr. Bright moved that ' before . the ! matter was proceeded with, the archi- [ tects should be asked to furnish rough estimates of the proposed work. This was seconded by Mr. Nolan and carried.
