THE BURTON CUP

The Burton Cup fixture takes place at Hawke's Bay next Easter, andi during the past few weeks there lias been a lot of argument among the Hawke's Bay bowlers as to the exact location of the tournament. It appears no record of the meeting was kept when it was decided to alter the conditions of the Burton Cup, whereby the contest shottld be played > alternately m Poverty Bay and Hawke's Bay. The general opinion amongst Gisborne 'bowlers was that the contest when held' m Gisborne should be playedi on the Gisborne and Kahutia greens, and when m. Hawke's Bay at ; Napier and Hastings. Tlie matter of fixing the location when the Oup was played for m Napier under the altered Conditions was left jio the Centre to decide, and they eellected Napier and • Port' Ahuriri -greens,. and the Consolation was played on the Wairere green. After j that it was naturally thought the Hastj ings clubs would hold the fixture when !it again went that way. However, the ' Centre decided to play it m Napier. The Hastings players took th© matter up strqngly, and wired several m Gisborne , for information m substantiation o<f their I claim, which,, was freely given. The outcome was that another meeting of tlie Centre was held, when it was decided to reverse the decision and hold the Burton Oup competition at Hastings. It ! was aCso decided' to hold the next New Year tournament m Napier, open to all: visiting bowlers. The decision of the Centre has been very favorably received by .local bowlers, who declare that that was the decision of the meeting held ion Gisborne when the conditions were altered.
