UAWA COUNTY COUNCIL.

The monthly meeting of the Uawa County Council was held at the office. Tolaga Bay, on Saturday, 9th August. There were present : The Chairman (Cr. E. B. Boland), and Crs. D. H. Hawkins, F. Hutchinson, J. A. Moore, J. McNeil, and J. S. Paterson. The Chairman asked for leave of absence for Cr. C. E. Smith, who is at present confined to his I house owing to a serious illness. I Outward correspondence was read. j Letters had been received' as follows : From Messrs Nolan and Skeet, for- ! warding certificate authorising issue .of license for the Tolaga Bay hotel. From the Clerk Cook County Council, j enclosing draft for £4378 63 Id, being ! amount of Tolaga No. 3 loan, advanced by tho Public Trustee. — The Clerk reported that the amount had .been-, placed m the bank. From the Minister for Internal Afi fairs, notifying that expenditure m ) connection with tho visit of H.M.S. New Zealand would be valid. — Received. j From the Hon. W. D. S. Mac Donald, 1 stating that he was going into the matter of the Pakarae bridge with the Minister of Public Works. j From the Gisborne Farmers' Co-op-erative Coy., Ltd., asking the Council if they would be willing to sell the life buoys that were on the old ferry! — The Clerk was instructed to find, out the cost price, and them make an offer to the company. ! From Mr J. B. Morris, asking the Council's assistance with the taking of land so as to find a safe site for the Coast road between the northern side of Te Kopuni block and Kaiaua. — The Council decided to go on with the work as soon as plans are submitted. j From Messrs Rees, ' Bright, and Wauchop, advising the Council as to 'their position m regard to the Pakarae bridge. — instructions were given to have* notices posted that 'persons using the bridge do so at their own risk. The matter of a sanitary system is being discussed by the Council* and m this connection it was reported that a depot site had been chosen, and the Cierk was instructed to call tenders for materials required as soon as he could get particulars of requirements. The Acting Overseer*- attended the meeting, and reported on various works m the county. A resolution making the general rate for year 1919-20 was . proposed 'by the chairman, and seconded by Cr. J. A. Cook County Council was passed' for payment, this being a portion, of the amount owing at date of the adjustment between j the Cook and Uawa counties. On the motion of Cv J. McNeil, seconded by Cr. D. H. Hawkins, it was resolved that the clerk be instructed to write to the Postmaster-General, pointing out that the mails to Tolaga had been much delayed during the past fewweeks, even when the roads were pass? able for wheel traffic. I A report had been obtained from the" acting-overseer on the matter of concreting crossings on the Tblaga-Taiu^aie-parae road. On the motion of Grv MeJNeil, seconded by Cr. F. Hutchhison, it was resolved to concrete three crossings as soon as the new Engineer-Overseer arrives, if he is satisfied that thoj work will be satisfactory. It was resolved to hold a special meeting to confer with the EngiueeivOverseev immediately on his arrival .-in the district*
