DEATH OF JUDGE PALMER.
Advice was received this- afternoon by Judge MacCormick of the death of Chief Judge Jackson Palmer, of the Native. Land Court. Judge Palmer was born at Belfast, Ireland, m 1867. Educated at Auckland College and Grammar School, he was articled to the late Hon. J. Sheehan, a former Native Minister. Ho was a barrister and solicitor, and' represented Waitemata m Parliament m 5»1891-93 and Oh'inemuri 1900-2, being subsequently appointed Chief Judge of the Native Land Court. At a meeting of the Court m Gisborne this afternoon, the news was announced by Judge MacCormick, who paid tribute to the qualities of the deceased Chief Judge. Expressions of regret were also voiced by Mr. H. Bright, president of the Law Society, Mr. Dunlop, Mr Sim (a former colleague), Mr. Pitt (formeriy with the Native Department), Henarc Ruru, and some others, on behalf -of the Natives. Th© Court then adjourned out of respect to deceased.
