(Per Press Association.) J AUCKLAND, this day. ! A conference convened by the Education Board" of members of Parliament and educational authorities was held today to consider matters for inquiry. Mr. Banks, chairman of the Board, m his opening speech, said that the Council of Education had passed a resolution that no one child should have less Mian 12 square feet of air space, yet so limited was the present accommodation that it would take half a million pounds to meet that requirement throughout tho Dominion. It was a disgrace that m a country like New Zealand such a condition of affairs should exist. They must do all m their power to bring about an improvement. Dr. Reekie said that the overcrowding m many of the city schools was shocking, only eight square feet being provided, instead of 12. Something must be done immediately. A formidable list of figures was presented,- show-, ing the requirements of the Auckland provincial district. WHAKATANE, this day. Tho three typhoid outbreaks at Rtiatoki, Paroa, and Ohinepanea, where over 20 cases occurred among natives, have nearly disappeared. The temporary hospital at. Ruatoki has been closed. Those at the other two places will clo3e & fortnight hence. The Whakantam: Rugby Union discussed protests by returned Eoldievs and others against playing with Dalmatians. Finally it was resolved that Dalmatians be debarred from playing m senior grade competitions.
