The executive meeting of the Poverty Bay provincial branch of the New Zea- j land Farmers' Union was continued on ! Saturday afternoon. The Director of Veterinary Research, Pretoria, advised that samples of the African cattle tick had been posted, and asked that any similar specimens prevalent m New Zealand be sent m exchange. — The secretary reported that the specimens had not yet come to hand. — Received. CATTLE TICK. The following remits came before the meeting : — From the Waimata branch : "That, the Government be urged to proclaim the cattle tick infested areas, and have same quarantined; also that a deputation wait upon the Minister of Agriculture and impress upon him the importance of this subject, and urge immediate action." — The chairman said the resolution was sent to all branches throughout . the North Island, and there had been some considerable opposition by some districts where the tick was already m existence., Letters were received from the following Unions and branchs : Hawke'a Bay provincial district, Wairarapa sub-pro-vincial district, Hamilton, Opotiki, Hellensville, Palmerston North, supporting the Poverty Bay Union's resolution re cattle tick arid Mr. W. D. Lyßnar'B pamphlets on meat and shipping trusts and wool commandeer. ' ■ I

SALE OF WORKS. Tlie Gisbqrne branch: "That this branch considers that the attention of the' Government should be at once drawn to the reported sale of Messrs. Nelson Bros' freezing works at Gisborne and Hawke's Bay to Messrs. Vesty Bros., and that the Minister; for Agriculture should be specially requested to refuse to give his consent to the transfer of the lease under section 7 of the Slaughtering and Inspection Act, 1918," upon certain grounds Bet forth. Other correspondence was read m connection with the matter and the chairman intimated that the Hon. W. D. S. Mac Donald had replied that a strict observation will be kept to protect the interests of producers.— On the motion of Mr. McLean it was decided to endorse the action of the chairman m wiring to the Minister. As some of the members had to catch th© train, the following letters were.'referred to the sub-committee for consideration :•*-;. The Waimata branch advised that they supqrted the Union, m their action re tho Meat Trust. Tho Gisborne branch: "Begarding the police protest against the dehorning of cattle, the roeet'ng considers lese cruelty will- arise by dehorning, of cattle than allowing-; cattle to grow their horns,' but recommended that all cattle should be dehorned before they arrive afe the age of 2 'years, and that the cavity be filled with fat and tar," '. ■ The Minister of Agriculture, m reply to the Union's request for, an experimental farni for th> difltriqt;, stated that the whole question of affording to seU tiers greater facilities for agricultural xftstrucfaon is at present engaging his active attention, and, m. this connection, the extent Co which expenmenta.l farms should be established will receive tlie fif lest consideration., .;■,£■; ■ The N Z ' Returned;.^Soldiers Association, Wellington, forwarded a copy of the report ol the. Lands Committee t as adopted by the recent Returned Soldiers' Association, Christchurch, and asked that the Union give its support m semiring the adoption by the Government of their proposals. They considered that the ordinary machinery of land eettlement is inadequate for dealing with the special conditions created by the. war.
