CROWDS IN LONDON.

ACCLAIM WAR'S END WITH HILARITY.

LONDON, June 2tf.— Some extraordinary scenes were enacted m London tonight as the peace celebration went on. Class distinction went by the board, a.-. .they did on drmistice day.' Women m masquerade costumes are thronging the streets and, dancing, soinelimes with London bobbifes., Limbless soldiers from hospitals are being wheded m flag-decked, chairs through the west end by admiring crowds. The predominance of women m the great throngonly too poignantly shows what inroads have been made y in British man-power by more than four years of war. Dense crowds for many hours surged joyously through the" streets and had Nelson's statue, from the top of its. Trafalgar square column, looked dowi. upon a sea of humanity which 'radiated down, through the Strand and Whitehall iind long before had choked traffic. London is enjoying a' fine, display ol its great wartime searchlight barrage, and spasmodically throughout the eve.ing there have , been salvos of gunfire rrom different parts of the metropolis. All the big hotels are having peace jazidances. One disappointment to the pro leariat was the drying up of nearly ai the beer sources at an early hour. This formal aot brings to its concluding stages the terrible' war which has devastated Europe and distracted the world. It manifests the, victory of ideals of freedom and of liberty for which we have mad© untold sacrifices. I share my people's joy and, thanksgiving and earnestly pray that the coming years- oi' peace may bring to them every" increasing happiness and prosperity.
