HOUSING AS A NATIONAL PROBLEM.
The United States Department) of Labor reports that the lack of housing ia felt m every part of the country. DurMig two war years <we have built but 25,000 homes yearly, instead of from 300,000 to 400,000, and as we were short of -juarters iri 1916. there as now need of a million new homes. New York City needs 75,000. To finance a great "owm-yoiir-own-home" campaign, the Department of Labor has prepared, a plan of Uniting; '-the present building and loan associations into home-loan banks which shall have the assistance of Federal supervision.
