DEATH OF SIR WILFRID LAURIER
(Australian and N.Z..Cable Association) (Received! Feb. 18, 8.45 a.m.) OTTAWA, Feb. 17. Sir Wilfrid Laurier is believed to be dying from paralysis. While dressing for church on Sunday he fell on the floor suffering from a stroke. His physician says he has only a' few hStirs to h.ve.' (Received Feb. 18, 8.45 a.m.) Obituary: Sir Wilfrid Laurier.
" Hhe Rt. Hon. Sir Wilfrid Laurier \ras aged 76. After being called to the Bar, he entered the Federal Assembly.,. Became Minister for Inland Revenue and leader of the Liberal Tarty, and^in 1896 Premier of the Dominion, being the first French-Canadian to hold the post. He was re-elected in.jlgQQ, lgO4,,andi, 1908. He was very prominent ai the Imperial Conferences. In 1907 and! 1911 he adiyocated the "All Red. Route." He resigned office after the eleotion of 1911, fought on the qjiestion-.of the Recipro,csW Bill, m which' the Country , decided agamst him. He opposed 'conscription m 1917 m which year he resigned the Liberal leadership. He celebrated' his golden wedding Last year.
